Escapism

I am sitting in my office, my first morning back to work since before christmas. I am cold (it is currently a nasty 11 degrees celcius and cloudy and there was rain earlier this morning – not what the ‘Summer’ is supposed to be in Wellington :-( ), I am tired and not very interested in doing any work but also not very interested in having friendly chat with work people about what everyone got up to in the holidays. What I want is to escape somewhere and actually have a holiday! A holiday by my definition is to do basically nothing at all, not run around seeing stuff or shopping or visitng people or any of that, but just doing nothing, lazing about, reading as many books as possible and forgetting that the real world exists. So in search of escapism, my destination of choice for today is Rarotonga in the Cook Islands – yes the 29 degrees celcius they are experiencing sounds much more appealing for the purpose of relaxing and having a holiday.

RarotongaSo I am dreaming of a warm and sunny tropical island with stunning white sand beaches, and sheltered clear blue turquoise lagoons. Sounds perfect! The simplicity that an island like Raratonga has to offer really does appeal for those who like me just want to do nothing. The whole island is only 32 kilometers in circumference and by scooter you can travel the entire island on the two main roads (there are no other main roads so it is hard to get lost!). There are beaches to swim at, craft stalls to visit and cafes for food and drink, and cruises of the lagoon which you can take.

Rarotonga AccommodationThere are plenty of accommodation options available to suit most people and most budgets, just do a web search and it is all there, otherwise your local travel agent will have all the latest info on where to stay and how to get there.

Also, this website has some good info about Rarotonga: http://www.world66.com/australiaandpacific/cookislands/rarotonga

I hope you enjoy dreaming of Rarotonga as much as I will, or even better, I hope you enjoy visiting it!!
