They’re playing our song!

A few years ago Robbie Williams released an album called Swing when Your Winning. I had a copy of this album as I love the style of music that featured on the album. One of the songs on the album is called Me and My Shadow. Originally sung by Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr I believe, Robbie’s version is sung with his friend Jonathan Wilkes. Well, my younger sister and I used to love singing this song together, we each took a part and it sort of became ‘Our Song’, we even adapted some of the words to fit the two of us a bit better! Now I have it on my iPod and changed the title to ‘Mira and Zofia’s Song’ and every time I hear it I think of Mira.

Why am I bothering to write about this? Well, I have been feeling a bit homesick recently and I happened to hear this song playing today on my iPod (I listen to my music on Shuffle so that I can get a random mix of songs) and as soon as the song came on it made me think of my sister who was probably at that very moment sound asleep in her bed on the other side of the world to me! The song always manages to make me smile and thinking of my sister and knowing that she has the same song on her iPod and feels the same way about it gives us this connection that is not affected by distance. I suddenly felt happier – after all it is hard to be sad when you are singing along to a song you enjoy and can imagine your sister singing along too! Hopefully one day soon we will be able to sing the song together again in the same location! Something to look forward to I guess :)

So, thanks to my iPod, I managed to move past my homesickness (for today at least) – I have heard that music has the amazing ability to alter your mood and I would definitely agree with that! This song always makes me happy.

Me And My Shadow (also known as Mira and Zofia’s song)

Like the wallpaper sticks to the wall
Like the seashore clings to the sea
Like you’ll never get rid of your shadow
You’ll never get rid of me

Let all the others fight and fuss
Whatever happens, we’ve got us.

(Me and my shadow)
We’re closer than pages that stick in a book
We’re closer than ripples that flow in a brook
(Strolling down the avenue)
Wherever you find her, you’ll find me, just look
Closer than a miser or the bloodhounds to Liza

Me and my shadow
We’re closer than smog to all of L.A.
We’re closer than Ricky to confessing he’s gay??
Not a soul can bust this team in two
We stick together like glue

And when it’s sleeping time
That’s when we rise
We start to swing
Our clocks don’t chime
What a surprise
They ring-a-ding-ding!
Happy New Year!

(Me and my shadow)
And now to repeat what I said at the start
They’ll need a large crowbar to break us apart
We’re alone but far from blue

Before we get finished, we’ll make the town roar
We’ll hit a few late spots, and then a few more
We’ll wind up at Stringy’s and maybe grab show
Life is gonna be we-wow-whee!
For my shadow and me!

Mira and me

So my shadow, if you are reading this, just remember that I love you! :)

Was wondering when the homesick bug would bite. I would’ve had it far sooner. Hang in there. Wes
